How the Club was formed

The Cornish Tractor Club was formed in 1987 by a few tractor enthusiasts who sat down one day and decided  they would like to organise events for the tractor enthusiasts. They pooled some of their own money to get the Club started. These men were Hedley James, his brother George, David Cowling, Paul Stephens and Basil Worden. Their first meeting was held at Quintrell Downs Village Hall near Newquay and their first Rally was held adjacent to the water works at Quintrell Downs.
Basil was Chairman for 10 years and is now our president.
We have had many Rallies, Working Weekends, Road Runs and outings since then.
The Rallies and Working Weekends are our main source of charity money and over the last few years we have donated a large amount of money to various Charities. The Club was fortunate enough to have been allowed to host the 2003 National Vintage Tractor Road Run, basing ourselves at the Royal Cornwall Showground for the Easter Weekend. From that event we held a presentation evening at the Lakeview, Lanivet at which we presented  over £5000 each to Motor Neurone Disease and Cancer UK.
Seven Cornish Tractor Club members took part in the 2002 National Vintage Tractor run with five of them, Debbie Delacoe, Tony Mathews, Reg Little, John Fahey and Les Burrows driving their tractors all the way from Cornwall to the venue at Sennybridge in the Brecon Beacons in Wales, where they were met by Peter and Bernard Lobb who had transported their tractors to the venue by lorry. Their journey was organised by Kathryn Knuckey and Thomas Andrews and over £2000 was raised for Motor Neurone Disease along the way.
At present, during the winter months, our social evenings are held on the second Tuesday of the month. We would be delighted to see you at any of these meetings. At the present time we are seeking a new venue.
We have many events planned throughout the year, New year and Easter Road Runs ( with perhaps one or two in between ) Working Weekends at Laneast in May and the Truro area in September, rally in June, various outings and we have now set up a Holiday Club. In 2004 we went to Southern Ireland Scotland in 2005 and this year we  returned to another part of Southern Ireland.
